Summer is ending, which means cooler weather is on its way. But that doesn't mean you have to stop boating just yet! You can keep boating in the fall, but you’ll have to adjust for the cold temperatures and winds. Here are some ways you can keep yourself and your passengers warm and cozy on your boat when it’s not hot outside.

Layer Up

The most efficient way to stay warm is to layer your clothing, rather than relying on one big, heavy outer layer to keep you warm. Start with thermal underwear or a pair of leggings and a long-sleeved shirt. Add a wool pullover and jeans or cargo pants, then a pair of thick wool socks and your waterproof boots. Light insulated gloves can help your fingers stay warm, and a woolen watch cap or beanie will keep your head warm. You can always add or remove layers to this ensemble as needed.

Stay Fed & Hydrated

Keeping your energy up is crucial to staying warm in cold weather. Make sure you’ve packed some water (you could also bring a thermos of warm coffee or tea) and a cooler with plenty of snacks to eat. Your body burns more calories to keep you warm, so you don’t want to be hungry for hours and hours.
